Challenge
St Hughs issues started when their Italian made GRP pods which were concreted in, along with their drainage started to fail. The bathroom pod that was already installed had tiled flooring which started to fail also and so did the drainage that was concreted into the floor, meaning that the drainage was not able to be moved without extensive work taking place.
Taplanes worked with St Hughs where both parties had design freedom to create a bespoke designed bathroom cubicle that accommodated the concreted drainage, with the concreted drainage determining how the cubicle would ultimately be designed. It also needed to be designed where it can also fit inside the existing GRP pod due to the constraints of the concreted existing pod along with the drainage, not being able to rectify this due to how costly it will become while also factoring any other potential damage that could be caused from this and manpower, taking away teams from other important jobs that need doing elsewhere.
St Hughs did go and do their research beforehand on how to resolve the leaking issues that they had, other companies that they reached out to were not able to give them a solution to their problem.
Scope
The college had issues within a whole accommodation block that consisted of 85 bedrooms with each bedroom consisting of an ensuite. From these 85 shower cubicles which were installed gave them a solution that could not have been given to by any other company within the industry. Other companies could not bespeak their designs to accommodate the concreted in drainage as it would have to been demolished, creating more cost for St Hugh’s. By being a bespoke bathroom solution provider, we can look at any issue that a client has and create a solution just for you, no problem is too big to not have a solution for.
Result
With the project being completed St Hugh College, still talks about how easy and cost effective our solution was compared to what could have been if they decided to rip out the existing concrete pod. It has also resulted in cheaper maintenance costs for the college and a clear mind knowing that there is a solution to any bathroom problems, and having shower cubicles installed that will not leak or give them future issues.
